Light Frigates:
Lightly armored and minimal weapon hardpoints. Because of their light weight and efficient power cores they can perform the longest jumps out of the smaller classes of ships. They are manly used in mining and exploration.

Heavy Frigates:
They are equipped with a fairly thick armor and a basic power core allowing for medium range jumps. Heavy Frigates are used mainly in battle and as medium range scouts for fleets.
